Villa Santa Maria takes care of children affected by various types of complex diseases of neuropsychiatric such as autism spectrum disorders with severe behavioral problems, congenital and acquired cerebral disease with motor impairment and mental retardation of varying degrees; psychiatric disorders of various nature and severity; genetic or metabolic neurodegenerative diseases with poor prognosis.
Villa Santa Maria provides its services both privately and through accreditation with the Regional Health Service and operates, since 1990, in the two locations of Tavernerio and Oggiona with Santo Stefano, representing a landmark in the local community and in the nation and, at the same time, developing and promoting also cooperation at the international level with some of the major neuropsychiatric rehabilitation centers.

STRUCTURE OF THERAPEUTIC REHABILITATION NEUROPSYCHIATRY OF THE CHILD (STRNPIA)
The Structure Therapeutic Rehabilitation of Neuropsychiatry of Childhood and Adolescence provides shelter for children up to eighteen years. The line is entirely the responsibility of the Regional Health Service; has a maximum capacity of thirty beds.
DAY CARE CENTER OF NEUROPSYCHIATRY OF THE CHILD (CDNPIA)
The Day Centre of Childhood and Adolescence Neuropsychiatry allows taking charge of children up to eighteen years.
The service is available from Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 16.00, throughout the year, including the summer.
This unit offers Neuropsychiatry and adolescents, whose performance standards are affiliated with the Regional Health Service and therefore no fee for families, aims to operate actively in the integrated network of services helping to ensure, in particular to children, pre-adolescents and their families, taking charge enabler comprehensive and multidisciplinary.
The transport service is guaranteed by the city of residence of the patient or the family itself.
CLINICAL ACTIVITY
At Villa Santa Maria there are different types of clinical activities such as:
A) Basic medical care: periodic checks, medical examinations connected with existing events and acute, emergency response; This is the standard mode of clinical evaluation of general pediatrics, particularly with regard to nutritional balance and to regulate development stature and weight.
B) Service of neuropsychiatry and adolescence: specialist visits, drafting of projects Individualized Therapeutic Rehabilitation (PTRI) with a multidisciplinary approach that takes into account all the components listed below:

RESEARCH
The main objectives of the research activities at Villa Santa Maria shows the order of priority:
• Refinement of the methods of care and assistance aimed at children and their families
• Deepening of knowledge on the basis of the data collected (learn from your data)
• Deepening the causes of developmental disorders with special regard to autism in collaboration with leading research groups.
